Fine Day
I had
a lot of fun putting this purse together because when I
started, I had no idea where I was going. The whole design
was inspired by the larger silver mum cut from a vintage
kimono. The pale peach kimono silk is thin and fine, and
the flower is tipped in red and accented with a dash of
metallic gold around the center. I followed the curve of
the flower when I top stitched the silver silk to keep
the movement of the petals going out and around the purse's
side. I split the purse so I could add some bold red for
the silver to hang on to. The silver dupioni is almost
metallic, it's so shiny. The red is deep and glimmers at
every turn. On the red side I put a silvery gray mum cut
from brocade to balance out the right side. The back has
some great top stitching around the fortune and down to
the bottom. I added another dash of color on the strap-
at the top. It's a fun little surprise to come across once
you can tear yourself away from looking at all the patterns
on the body of the bag! There are only 2 of these purses
(now one- since one has sold!) because the gray mum only
showed up twice on the fabric I had.. so sad. The lining
is red satin and has two large pockets made from silver
satin.
