| My mother gave me a bit
of advice when I was in middle school and obsessing on
matching my socks to my shirts. She said, “Elizabeth,
things don’t always have to match, they just need
to go”.
It took many years to understand that (and to get out of
the 80s and early 90s), but it eventually became a key
philosophy in my designs. The front of each bag is made
with two prints that I select to create an interesting
and unique look. Each has a ribbon sewn down the middle
to either subtly divide the two prints, or to enhance the
overall aesthetic. The back is made with an upholstery
fabric that goes with the front and has a printed fabric
fortune at the top to remind you that you’re
wearing a purse of great fortune! The inside is lined in
either satin or taffeta and has two large pockets on one
side. The flat, slim body of the purse is approximately
12 inches tall, 13.5 inches wide at the bottom, and zips
tight with a zipper on top. I use a stiffening material
to back the front side of the purse to give it more weight
and stability, and add a row of fuzzy pom pom fringe at
the bottom. The strap is 44 inches long- to fit across the
chest, if that's how you choose to wear it, and is made
from satin. A Great Fortune purse is bold and fun... see
what luck comes your way with one of these over your shoulder! |
